2007 Tennessee Volunteers football team

The 2007 Tennessee Volunteers football team represented the University of Tennessee in the 2007 season. They won the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference before falling to the eventual national champion LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship Game. The Vols capped off the season by defeating the Wisconsin Badgers in the Outback Bowl to Cody Latimer Jersey finish with a record of 10 4.

The team was led by head coach Phillip Fulmer. The Volunteers played their home games at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. The 2007 season was the last at Tennessee for four assistants on the staff. This year the team returned 11 starters (2nd fewest in SEC). The schedule was ranked 6th toughest in the country entering the year,[2] with road games at California, Alabama, and Florida.

Tennessee also played key games against Georgia, South Carolina, and Arkansas at Neyland Stadium.

Head Coach Phillip Fulmer hired David Cutcliffe, former 6 year head coach at Ole Miss, after being the Tennessee offensive coordinator from '93 '98. Tennessee scored 30+ ppg in each of his first 6 years as the offensive coordinator and went from 18.6 to 27.8 ppg in 2006. In 2007, Tennessee ranked 54th in total offense, 73rd in rushing offense, and 35th in passing offense. The scoring offense ranked 36th.[6]

Senior Erik Ainge suffered a knee injury in spring but started each game of the season. Ainge was hampered by a finger and shoulder injury suffered in the season opener at California.[7] Ainge finished behind Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and Andre Woodson in all conference voting, earning honorable mention honors.[8]

Arian Foster saw the majority of time at tailback, with relief appearances by LaMarcus Coker, Montario Hardesty, and Lennon Creer. Coker was eventually dismissed from the team following the South Carolina game for a violation of team rules.[9] Foster finished the season with 1193 rushing yards.[10]

The Bradley Roby Kids Jersey Wide Receivers were led by Juniors Lucas Taylor and Josh Briscoe, along with redshirt Sophomore . Taylor had 73 receptions for 1000 yards while Rogers caught 56 passes for 624 yards.[10]

The Offensive line returned three starters in T Eric Young, G Anthony Parker and C Josh McNeil. The remaining two positions were filled by improved junior Ramon Foster (T) and Chris Scott (G). Young was injured late in the season and was replaced by Jacques McClendon at guard, while Scott moved to Young's tackle position.[11]

Chris Brown started most of the season at TE due to a preseason injury to Brad Cottam. Cottam returned late in the season when it appeared that the NCAA would deny his redshirt appeal.[12]

New England Patriots 32

New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri had missed just four field goal attempts indoors during his entire career, and ironically, they had all come at Houston Reliant Stadium site of Super Bowl XXXVIII. But with just nine seconds remaining on the game clock and the game knotted at 29, the hero of Super Bowl XXXVI came through again with a game winning 41 yard field goal as the Pats secured their second Super Bowl championship in three years by beating the Carolina Panthers, 32 29.

Quarterback Jake Delhomme and the Panthers made a habit Jeoffrey Pagan Jersey of coming from behind during the regular season, and it appeared they might be on their way again when the first year starter connected with wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad on an 85 yard go ahead touchdown pass with just under seven minutes left, and again when he connected with Ricky Proehl on a 12 yard game tying strike with just over one minute remaining in the game. But John Kasay ensuing kickoff rolled out of bounds and the ball was spotted all the way out at the 40 yard line, setting up the Patriots game winning drive.

Despite two missed field goals by Vinatieri, the majority of the first half was little more than a battle for field position. With just over three minutes left in the first half, the game remained scoreless and the Panthers were held to minus 7 yards of total offense while quarterback Delhomme completed just one of his first nine passes for one yard.

But when the Patriots broke the ice on a five yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to wide receiver Deion Branch, they touched off an offensive explosion that netted a combined 24 points before the teams entered the locker room for the intermission.

After being harassed for much of the first quarter and a half, Delhomme made the first mistake of the day when he coughed up the football on a sack by the Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel. Defensive end Richard Seymour recovered the ball at the Panthers 19 yard line, setting up the Pats first score.

Carolina shifted to a hurry up offense after the ensuing kickoff, and Delhomme seemed to texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-jay-prosch-jersey.htm find a rhythm as he capped off a 90 yard drive with a beautiful 39 yard pass that he dropped over the shoulder of wide receiver Steve Smith as he crossed the goal line.

The Patriots took over on offense with just over one minute remaining in the half, and three plays into their drive Brady connected with Branch again for a key 52 yard gain that helped set up a five yard touchdown pass to David Givens. With 18 seconds on the clock, the Pats led 14 10.

Trying to run out the clock, New England decided to squib the kickoff, but it was picked up quickly by Panthers wide receiver Kris Mangum, who returned it to near midfield.

Carolina seemed content to run out the clock, and on their first play, they ran a draw to running back Steven Davis, who took it 21 yards to the Patriots 32 yard line where they quickly called a timeout.

Kicker John Kasay came in and connected on a 50 yard field goal attempt to cap off a wild three minutes and make the score heading into halftime, 14 10 in favor of the Pats.

Both teams found more success on offense in the second half, but the third quarter played out similar to the first quarter, as neither team could put any points on the board.

New England, benefiting from the terrific field position they enjoyed most of the game, finished the third quarter with a solid drive that started at their own 44 yard line. Two plays into the fourth quarter, running back Antowain Smith carried the ball in from two yards out.

Down 11 points with most of the fourth quarter remaining, Delhomme caught fire, going 3 for 5 for 53 yards before DeShaun Foster ripped off a 33 yard touchdown run that put the Panthers right back in the game. But in a decision that head coach John Fox might live to regret, Carolina attempted to cut the lead to three points, but the two point conversion attempt failed.

New England answered with a long drive of their own, but on a third and goal from the Panthers nine, Brady was intercepted by Reggie Howard in the end zone. Three plays later, Delhomme connected with Muhammad on the 85 yarder that gave them their only lead of the game. Again they failed to convert the two point attempt.

Julian Edelman has ably replaced Wes Welker

The quote, from a Bill Belichick press conference in early September, helps explain a lot about the Patriots' personnel decisions over the years. It also helps explain why Julian Edelman has been the most productive wide receiver on the team through five games.

That's not to say he doesn't have ability his shiftiness running routes makes him tough to cover. He flew under the radar during training camp because of the focus on the rookie wide receivers, but he was always in the mix with the top unit when he was healthy. However, his chemistry with quarterback Tom Brady and his knowledge of the system have helped him remain a bright spot in what's otherwise been a disappointing season for the Patriots offense.

Edelman is on pace for 115 receptions, 1,133 yards, 9.8 yards per reception and six touchdowns. Wes Welker last year had 118 receptions, 1,354 yards, 11.5 YPR and six touchdowns.

In the creepy department, Edelman and Welker both have the same yards per route run (1.78), according to Pro Football Focus.

Brady is 36 of 48 (75 percent) for 354 yards and two touchdowns, giving him a passer rating of 109.2 when targeting Edelman. Brady's rating on the season overall is 80.5, so Edelman has been one of Brady's most efficient targets.

As you alluded, Edelman has fewer drops (3) than any of the Patriots top four receivers despite more targets than any of them.

Lots of uncertainty in the Patriots receiving corps, but Edelman has been a bedrock of consistency through the trouble.

We're going on 39 days of "day to day," but it sounds like this might finally be the week. It was reported by ProFootballTalk earlier this week that Gronkowski is likely to play this week against the Saints. He might be on a limited snap count, but he's been practicing now since the www.texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-louis-nix-jersey.html beginning of the season, so he should be in or close to football shape.

The Patriots really need him in the red zone, where they have converted just six of 17 trips inside the opponent's 20 yard line and rank better than only the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. Gronkowski has 29 red zone touchdowns in the regular season since 2010, the most in the league despite him missing 10 games in the past two seasons. Do you think his role is diminishing? October 10, 2013

Hans, I wouldn't read too much into it.

You're right, Kellen Winslow was on the field for just 20 of 47 snaps against the Falcons, with Jeff Cumberland earning his biggest workload of the season (percentage wise) at 36 snaps. It looks worse because the game plan was focused, clearly, on attacking the linebackers over the middle.

The Jets rolled out a unique offensive game plan against the Falcons. They were lining up in a lot of different formations to keep the Falcons guessing. As a result of that very multiple attack, the Jets www.texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-tom-savage-jersey.html went with the most versatile players on the roster.

Cumberland and Winslow actually ran the same number of routes (17 apiece), but Cumberland was used as a blocker 19 times (18 runs, one pass), where Winslow was used just three times as a run blocker.

Winslow isn't an incredibly versatile player. I think this was just a case of one game plan where he simply wasn't a fit.

At 2 3, the Bills aren't out of the mix yet, but they were dealt a devastating blow with the injury to quarterback EJ Manuel that could keep him out for six to eight weeks. Safety Jairus Byrd and cornerback Stephon Gilmore have both missed the first five games, but are expected to make their return this week against the Bengals. They then have two tough road games against the Dolphins and Saints, then home against the currently undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

The Jets could make a bigger push than expected if rookie quarterback Geno Smith continues to develop. A week after turning the ball over four times against the Titans, Smith didn't commit a single turnover in a 30 28 win over the Falcons. We have come to expect big things from the Jets defense, and Rex Ryan's group has not failed to deliver (second overall). Their defensive line is a force, with three first rounders in Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples and Sheldon Richardson. Teams dream of being built as well up front as the Jets on defense.

To me, though, the Dolphins still look like the bigger threat. They still have the best defense of the bunch and the better skill position players. They're on a bye this week, giving them some time to get key players healthy like defensive end Cameron Wake and cornerbacks Dimitri Patterson and Will Davis. The Dolphins haven't played a single game against an AFC East opponent, so that will be a big test for them. For now, though, I feel safe sticking with the Dolphins as the No. 2 team in the division.

great call edition

Finally, a Monday Night Football game that delivers. The Panthers victory over the Patriots was great from start to finish the kind of game that someone without a rooting interest in either team could enjoy. The Panthers are legit. The Patriots are resilient. It was 1 million times better than watching Sundays Vikings game.

We include in this glowing review the games final play controversial, to be sure, but a call that we thought was simply great. In case you missed it (video above), Tom Bradys final desperate pass was intercepted in the end zone. An official threw a flag initially, presumably for Luke Kuechlys coverage of Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, but after a conference the officials picked up the flag and ruled no penalty. Game over.

We saw it live. Weve watched the replay half a dozen times. Was Gronkowski held? Of course he was. Is there any way in the world he is able to stop his momentum before being held and adjust to a ball underthrown Xavier Su'a-Filo Youth Jersey by at least two yards? No. The above explanation by Gerry Austin makes perfect sense.

That same play could unfold 100 times, C.J. Fiedorowicz Kids Jersey and Gronkowski would not be able to make a play held or not and catch the ball 100 times. Thats our subjective viewpoint, and surely others see it differently, but thats also the nature of pass interference one of the most subjective important rulings in all of sports officiating.

Too often an offense is bailed out. Not on Monday, with a great call to end a great game. Commenters must follow our Terms of Use.
